| At ALC, QA system is
closely bound with the whole process of production.
Quality management is an integral part of project management.
Different people conduct quality control at different
stages.
Translator is the first QA unit, who strictly checks
his own translation after work, corrects the known
problems, submits unsure terms and sentences to QA
department for advice, and then submit the self-QAed
translation to a technical editor.
The technical editor is the second QA unit, who edits
the submitted translation and makes the necessary
technical and linguistic corrections. He solves all
the problems and uncertainty in the technical area
and writes a QA report that contains error rate regarding
the translator's work, and then submits the QAed translation
to the proofreader. A technical editor has the right
to return the translation to the translator for reworking
in case the error rates exceeds ALC QA's standards.
The proofreader is the third QA unit in ALC's QA
process. He focuses on linguistic quality of the translation.
The final QA is the deliverable QA, conducted by
ALC top linguistic and technical specialist, who read
through the 3rd QAed translation, picking up faults,
if any, in technical, linguistic, formatting quality,
and even functionality quality.
QA checkpoints and quality criteria are clearly
defined in ALC QA Criteria, and the QA result is kept
in Linguistic Quality Report (LQR) file and a feedback
is provided to each member in the project team.
In ALC's Award Policy, the Award for each member
is based on the ALC QA Criteria, so all staff in ALC
actively guarantees Product Quality.
